SUBMISSION RULES AND GUIDELINES

  • All books must have been published in the U.S. with a publication date between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.

  • All books must be printed in English. Translations are not eligible.

  • All authors must be U.S. residents.

  • Books can be submitted by publishers and literary agents only. Books may not be submitted for consideration directly by the author.

  • Self-published works where the author is the publisher, e-books, textbooks and anthologies, graphic novels, and co-authored books are not eligible.

  • Books with AI-generated text in part or in whole will not be accepted. By submitting to the Prize, the publisher is confirming that the book is in compliance with this requirement.

  • All books must be adult non-fiction. 

  • Books must be submitted online at bit.ly/MAAHStoneBookAward2026 by April 15, 2026. Submissions must include a high-resolution image of the book cover, a digital copy of the book, and a photo (at least 300 dpi) and short biography of the author.

  • Six (6) printed copies of the book (galley proofs are acceptable) must be mailed at the publisher’s/literary agent’s expense to:

  • Books must be received by April 22, 2026. Submitted copies of the books will NOT be returned.

  • The MAAH Stone Book Award reserves the right to call for additional submissions after April 15, 2026.

  • There is no submission fee.

Judging Process

  • The MAAH Stone Book Award reserves the right to decline submissions it deems unacceptable. These books will not be returned.

  • A jury of academic scholars will review eligible, acceptable submissions and choose three finalists. 

The Award

The three finalists for the award will be announced in early September. The winning author will be announced and awarded $50,000 at the award ceremony on October 8, 2026. The two finalists will receive $10,000 each. All authors must be present at the award ceremony to accept the prizes.

All three finalists must also agree to participate in online and in-person publicity events and other speaking engagements October 7-9, 2026 as well as  the MAAH Stone Book Award sponsored session at the Boston Book Festival in October 2027.
